In 2009, college friends Sam Brakeley and Andy Rougeot embarked on a 39-day canoe trip thru-paddling the Northern Forest Canoe Trail. This is the story of their journey as written by Brakeley and includes historical tidbits about the region they passed through.

Written by Sam Brakely who returned to the Northern Forest Canoe Trail in 2010 as a stewardship intern and in subsequent years as a regional field coordinator. He is also the author of In the Wake of America's Hannibal: Tracing Benedict Arnold and the 1775 Expedition to Quebec by Canoe.
