The lower Barton River is a very nice and easy paddle for someone of any skill level. This reach goes through some nice relaxing waters in a swampy environment. It is a great section if you’re looking to possibly see some neat wildlife including the great blue heron. This stretch is would be just as easy to go upstream as down, thus making it a great out-and-back trip from the South Bay Access in Newport. If you can shuttle cars around, the total milage from Coventry Station Access to South Bay Access is 7.7 miles.
